Fiat Panorama

The Fiat Panorama was a small 2 door station wagon released in Brazilian market in March of 1980. It was a 147 variant but its mechanicals were adapted for a heavier weight. The Panorama entered in the market of the small wagons for those customers who had a big family but couldn't pay a lot for a big car. The current cars available in that market was the VW Brasília, VW Variant, Ford Belina and Chevrolet Caravan. Some time later, they were the Chevrolet Marajó (end of 1980) and VW Parati (1982).

The appeal of the Panorama was the economy of space and fuel. The length was the smaller of all brazilians wagons (3924 mm/154 in) but the internal space was equivalent to the biggers. For create more room space, the spare tire was inside the hood, like the 147. The light weight allowed a small fuel consumption both of gasoline or alcohol.

Sold with three options of engine 1048 cc/65 in³ gasoline with a power of 57 CV/56 hp/42 kW and 1297 cc/80 in³ gasoline or alcohol with a power of 61 CV/60 hp/45 kW and 62 CV/61 hp/46 kW respectively) and two versions: C and CL. The 1050 engine was available only to the C version.

Although the Panorama wasn´t a success, many units were sold, most with the 1.3L alcohol engine. The problem of all Fiat's of the 70's and 80's was the poor gearbox. It was hard and unreliable. It's design similar to a box was useful but not beautiful. The Panorama was phased out in 1986 for give its market to the Elba/Duna Weekend.
